WHM Tutorials - How to Give Resellers a Shared IP Address
hi there this is Lawrence Simon a technical writer on the documentation team at cPanel your hosting platform of choice okay with cPanel and WHM you can specify a single shared IP address for resellers to use this video will demonstrate how to get multiple resellers their own IP addresses to use as shared IP addresses this allows you to isolate a reseller and their customers to a particular IP address if the reseller earns a poor reputation or a spam listing it won't affect the other resellers and their customers let's take a look I'll log in to WHM as root and here we are in the WHM home interface if you haven't already added the additional IP addresses to your server use W HMS add a new IP address interface to add them in the search bar enter add a new IP address and then click the link a new interface will appear right now I've got dot one-one-nine on my server but I'll go ahead and add dot 120 through dot 123 let's check the subnet that looks good and I'll click Submit a success message will appear now let's look at the accounts that exist on the server in the search bar search for our list accounts and then click on the link the interface will appear and you can see there are six accounts on this server three reseller accounts resell one resell two and resell three and each of those resellers owns an account owned one owned two and owned three notice how all of them use the 119 IP address now how do we allow a reseller to share its own IP address separate from the other resellers you can do this by accessing WH M's show edit reserved IP interface in the search bar enter reserved IP and click the link a new interface will appear I'll go ahead and select 121 122 and 123 as reserved then I'll enter notes for each of those IP addresses showing which ones I'm reserving them for finally I'll click Save there the server is reserved the IP addresses next we'll go to W HMS rebuild the IP address pool interface to rebuild the address pool in the search bar enter rebuild and click the link a new interface will appear and we'll click proceed a success message will appear now let's move on to W HMS manage resellers shared IP interface use the search bar to find it and then click the link there the interface appear and it lists the reseller accounts I'll select resale one and click Submit a new interface will appear I'll go ahead and select 121 as the IP address that the resale one account uses to create accounts and I'll click Save a success message will appear there we've set 121 is the IP address for resale one to create new accounts let's go back to that interface I'll select resale one again and click the submit button and let's look at the list resale one now uses 121 now we're ready to test the configuration I'll go through the process of creating another account on resale one let's log out of WH M as the root user and we'll log back in as resale one the WH Emma home interface will appear let's go to the create account interface a new interface will appear I'll create owned one a.com the system will automatically fill in the username then I'll give it a password and confirm the password set an email for the account and we scroll all the way to the bottom and click create the confirmation message shows that we've created the account on the 121 IP address now that we know how to configure a reseller to use its own IP address we can repeat the process for resale to on IP address 122 and resale 3 an IP address 123 this process handles the creation of new accounts by resellers what about the existing owned one account which still uses the 119 address well there is a procedure for those accounts if you've given root privileges to the reseller they can use wh M's change site IP address interface to move that owned one account to the 121 IP address however giving root privileges to your resellers can be a security risk so you might want to do this procedure for them and then coordinate a window in which to perform the change especially if they use a third-party DNS provider I can show you how to use that interface whether you let them resell or do it or you do it as the root user let's search for the change site's IP address interface and click on the link the interface will appear then we'll select the site that we wish to change and click change a new interface will appear select the desired IP address out of the menu in this case we'll select 121 and click change a success message will appear and it will display the new IP address I'll put a link to the documentation in the video's description okay for more about cPanel the hosting platform of choice go to cPanel comm or follow us on twitter at cpanel what did you think of this video leave a comment and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more helpful videos thank you for watching and enjoy
